Annual Mt Garnet Races and Rodeo Weekend.

The 2024 annual event weekend, with two days racing followed by the rodeo has once again been a great success.

This year marked eighty-six years of racing and fifty-five years of rodeo. What an achievement! Congratulations to the committees involved. The tireless efforts and many hours of hard work from these volunteers ensure that the community can catch up with old friends, make new ones and enjoy this great event.

The event brings many people from far and wide and highlights the small township of Mt Garnet. It not only boosts business in the town it boosts other businesses across the Tableland Shire. The combined revenue that the Trustees, Turf Club & Rodeo Clubs spend throughout the region is approximately three quarters of a million dollars and this is due to the successful management of these Clubs.

Recognition must go out to the dedicated volunteers of whom there is never enough, who volunteer hours and hours of their own time to make this weekend a success. Our volunteers come from, Ayr, Hughenden and Brisbane, and other places far and wide to help with the preparation weeks before the event and throughout the year as well. This year we saw ladies in their finest helping at the races, SES cadets at the rodeo, Mareeba Lions at the front gate and the fantastic team old diehard workers that keep turning up year after year. Applause and appreciation go to all these people who give up their valuable time to make this wonderful weekend the success that it is.

The 2024 event saw the introduction of our own newly formed volunteer Rural Fire team. A big thank you to this dedicated group of people for putting their hands up to become involved over the weekend.

A special thank you to the Police who attended this year as their interaction with the organisers and the patrons was beneficial to all, we appreciate their guidance and help throughout the event.
