Experience the heart of Mt Garnet Races & Rodeo weekend by camping on-site at the iconic L.D. Lucey Memorial Park. Whether you’re a returning camp holder or a first-time visitor, here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your stay.

📍 Location

L.D. Lucey Memorial Park is located just off the Kennedy Highway, Mt Garnet. This 46-hectare reserve is fully fenced and purpose-built for recreation, offering a mix of permanent private camps and public camping spaces.

🗓️ Camping Availability

YOU MUST BOOK ONLINE LIMITED SITES

Camping is available during the Annual May Day Weekend event. Sites range from private, long-held camps to general public campgrounds, which are well equipped with:

  • Multiple toilet and shower blocks 
  • Access to water though it is not potable, either bring your own or boil 
  • Designated campfire areas (with permit) 
  • Roadway access for emergency services 
  • Security and first aid on-site 

🏠 Types of Camping

🛖 Private Campsites (By Permit)

  • 61 established private sites, some with long-term family histories 
  • Camp holders must have signed agreements and abide by the Code of Conduct 
  • Each camp is self-maintained and includes its own amenities 
  • Not transferable outside family unless approved 

🏕️ Public Camping

  • Available to general visitors and travelling public during events 
  • Sites located near public amenities (toilets/showers) 
  • Managed by the Trustees with support from a proposed on-site caretaker 
  • Limited to a maximum of 3–7 days depending on availability 
  • Not a commercial caravan park—no bookings outside designated periods 

🔥 Campfires

Campfires are permitted in designated areas during the Annual May Day Weekend under a blanket fire permit arranged by the Trustee in collaboration with the Rural Fire Brigade. Campers must:

  • Bring their own firewood 
  • Monitor and extinguish fires responsibly 
  • Fires must be in a firepit 
  • Follow campfire rules as outlined in the Camping Terms & Conditions 

🛑 Code of Conduct & Terms

All campers must agree to:

  • Respect quiet hours (midnight or 2:00 AM based on zone) 
  • Keep campsites tidy and remove personal rubbish 
  • Avoid trespassing on neighbouring private property 
  • Refrain from any abusive, aggressive, or unsafe behaviour 

Disruptive patrons may be removed from the grounds by event security or local police.

🚰 Water & Waste

  • Water is provided on-site via dam and storage tanks, though not potable 
  • Rubbish removal is the responsibility of campers outside event periods. 
  • During the event, skip bins and recycling stations are provided. 
  • Please take care to keep the area clean for all visitors and wildlife. 

🚗 Parking & Access

  • All camping areas have designated access roads 
  • Vehicles must stay within marked areas 
  • Emergency vehicle access must remain clear at all times 
  • Security teams monitor traffic flow during peak times 

🐮 Livestock & Neighbour Awareness

L.D. Lucey Memorial Park is bordered by operational farms, including cattle and avocado farms. To protect surrounding properties:

  • Stay within the reserve boundaries 
  • Do not interact with livestock or enter neighbouring properties 
  • Report any fencing damage or stray animals to event staff 

📋 Check-In & Wristbands

  • All attendees must purchase tickets online prior to arrival 
  • Wristbands must be worn at all times for access to race, rodeo, and cabaret events 
  • Camping is included in full-weekend passes (subject to availability) 

🆘 Safety & Services

  • First Aid is available onsite 24/7 during the event at the repurposed Jailhouse 
  • A defibrillator is located at a central point on the grounds 
  • Security patrols overnight to ensure safety and assist with any issues
